GRACE Class Space Layout

GRACE uses the Glue AFS cell for most filesystem needs. The actual path to a class account from any Glue machine is the following:

/afs/glue.umd.edu/class/[semester_year]/[college]/[course_number]/[section_number]/
Within this directory, the following folders exist:

Folder Student Permissions Instructor Permissions Purpose
.db/ none none information needed by Glue staff
public read read/write area for instructor postngs
instructor none read/write instructor's personal space
backup read read holds a one-day old copy of all folders and subfolders in this directory
student/[login_name] read/write read individual student space
submit/[login_name] insert only read where the submit script places files

An example of a student class directory is shown below:

/afs/glue.umd.edu/class/fall2005/cmsc/114/0101/student/robert
