The group has proven through enrichment
procedures and morphology examinations that it has successfully isolated
a member of the genus Vibrio as predicted in the modified goal of
this project. Although the first attempts failed, a salt tolerant
organism was isolated from a marine environment. The group used a
synthetic seawater medium with a 3% salt concentration to isolate these
organisms from a sea bass. The isolated organism was then examined
on T-soy agar and tested through Gram staining, oxidase tests, catalase
tests, motility stabs, and O/F tests. These tests were all consistent
with the genus Vibrio, specifically V. fischeri. This
species is bioluminescent and has a characteristic faint glow under the
proper conditions. Although this luminescence was not observed, the
group suspects that this is because the colonies were not observed at the
proper time, under the correct conditions, or in the proper density.
Therefore the group concludes that the endeavor was successful.
