Safety/Hazmat Reference Card
HAZMAT CONTACT
AND SPILLS
- The toxic gas monitoring
system has two warning levels:
- Yellow strobe light
and no audible alarm if the toxic gas monitoring system malfunctions.
Notify LPS staff as below for HAZMAT. Evacuation of personnel from the
cleanroom is not required unless asked to do so by LPS staff.
- RED STROBE LIGHT AND
AUDIBLE ALARM - EVACUATE THE BUILDING IMMEDIATELY. Toxic gas has been
detected. Do not delay or stop to remove your cleanroom uniform.
Emergency response units are automatically notified.
- Every HAZMAT personal contact
or spill requires immediate notification of the LPS safety officer and
cleanroom manager:

Your voice will be broadcast over the building P.A. system.
CONTACT
- Remove affected clothing and
rinse with running water for 15 minutes. Use the emergency eyewash station
for eye contact and the emergency shower station for all but highly
localized and easily accessible body locations amenable to irrigation at a
sink spigot.
- Your "buddy system"
partner should first call 9-911 emergency medical response and then
the LPS safety officer and cleanroom manager as for HAZMAT above.
SPILL
- Leave the cleanroom if the
spilled substance poses a health hazard by fumes or combustion.
- Call the LPS safety officer
and cleanroom manager as for HAZMAT above.
- Then initiate HAZMAT
containment only for small quantities of material if you understand the
situation and can do so with safety.
