Objectives for the Seminar
To facilitate a discussion of rhetorical criticism from a Burkean
perspective
To assist seminarists in developing their own Burkean criticisms
through brief presentation and discussion
Basic Schedule for the 3 days
Day 1: Orientation and general discussion of Burke's perspective
on criticism
Day 2: Discussion of Burke the critic and first examination of
criticism of seminarists
Day 3: Discussion of criticism by seminarists and concluding
remarks
Six pieces of criticism will be at the heart of our discussion in the
seminar. We invite you to read all six but ask that you read at
least three. Detailed assignments for each of you are
linked.
