Delia Neuman is an Associate Professor and the Coordinator of the School Library Media Program in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland.  She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in English literature and a Ph.D. in instructional systems design.  She is the writer for the national guidelines for school library media programs entitled Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning (AASL and AECT, 1998).

Her research interests encompass the ways students use information to learn and the ways that electronic information resources can be designed to foster higher-level learning.

She has won several research awards (notably ALA's 1991 Carroll Reston Baber Research Grant) for research that attempts to integrate instructional systems design and information systems design.  She has published in information studies journals (e.g., JASIS, School Library Media Quarterly, JELIS, College and Research Libraries, Library Trends); in journals related to technology and learning (e.g., ETR&D, Computers in the Humanities, Journals of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia); and in various other venues.

From 1993 through 1997 she was the editor of the "Current Research" column for School Library Media Quarterly, and from 2002 through 2004 she was the chair of the editorial board of the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science.

From 2002 thorugh 2003 she served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), and she is currently AECT's special representative to the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.  She is also currently the Principal Investigator for a 3-year grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to recruit and train school library media specialists for the district of Columbia Public Schools.
